Did you know that Texas is home to two Bluebell icons—one blooms in the fields, and the other sweetens your freezer?
Texas Bluebell Flowers
-
Native to Texas and rare in the wild today, Bluebell flowers (aka Eustoma) are known for their stunning shades of purple and blue.
-
These beauties symbolize gratitude and charm, making them a southern favorite in wildflower mixes and bouquets.
-
They’re sometimes called “Texas tulips” because of their bell-shaped blooms and elegant petals.
Blue Bell Creameries
-
Founded in 1907 in Brenham, Texas, Blue Bell started as a humble butter maker before turning its sights to the ice cream world. In 1930 the Brenham Creamery Company formally adopted the name Blue Bell Creameries in honor of the Texas bluebell wildflower, which grows abundantly around Brenham, Texas in the spring.
-
Today, Blue Bell is one of the most beloved ice cream brands in the South—especially their iconic Homemade Vanilla which was introduced in 1969 and a kid favorite like Cotton Candy.
-
True Texans know: if you’re passing through Brenham, a trip to the Blue Bell Visitor Center is a must!
Though unrelated by origin, Texans have a soft spot for both kinds of Bluebells. One fills our prairies with color, the other fills our hearts (and bowls) with joy.
